Supreme Court has once again deferred the review hearing of the verdict abolishing the 13th Amendment of the Constitution, which introduced the caretaker government system.

The new date for the hearing has been set for 9 February, ruled by a four-judge Appellate Bench led by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam on Sunday (19 January).

In court, advocate Zainul Abedin and barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal sought additional time on behalf of the BNP.

The review petition, filed against the abolition of the caretaker government system through the 13th amendment, was on the docket for Sunday's hearing.

The initial date for the review hearing was set on 1 December by the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed.

The petition was submitted on 16 October, under the leadership of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Alongside him, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), and Professor Mia Golam Parwar, secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, also filed review petitions.

The review petitions aim to reconsider the 13th amendment's annulment in order to restore a balance of political power.

The hearing will present various aspects of the judicial system and matters of public interest before the high court.
