Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has said that the war against extortion and encroachment will continue until justice is established in the country.
The Jamaat leader made the remarks while speaking at the workers' conference organised by the district and metropolitan Jamaat at the historic Madrasa Maidan in Rajshahi on Saturday.
He also highlighted the sacrifices made by many people in the country’s history, particularly those who laid down their lives in the fight against misrule and corruption.
"Why did our children give so much blood? Because they wanted to bury all kinds of misrule and corruption in this society," Dr Rahman said.
He also honoured the sacrifices made by the martyrs, acknowledging the debt owed to them. "We are indebted and grateful to those who gave their blood for today's environment. We will have to repay this debt for the rest of our lives.”
“Many bodies had been made disappeared during the last days of the July-August uprising, with piles of bodies thrown onto trucks, set on fire. We will never be able to repay their debts," he added, referring to the brutalities of the past.
Regarding the number of martyrs from his party, he said, "We are the party of those who have been martyred. They are national assets, and we want to keep them above our heads. No conspiracy will succeed against this nation if we have such brave people."
Dr Rahman emphasised that the only way to establish true justice in Bangladesh is through the rule of the Quran. "We want to build Bangladesh with the rule of the Quran, free from discrimination, corruption, and extortion, and founded on justice."
"For this, we have to continue the fight. We have sacrificed a lot, and we must sacrifice more. Life is very short, but the work is vast. There is no time for rest," he mentioned.
The Jamaat Ameer strongly criticised the previous government for its actions against the country's scholars and opposition members.
"The previous government has waged atrocities on scholars for 15 years. It has taken away 11 of our leaders, including two Ameers. They had disappeared those who protested against injustice. They had killed countless brothers, destroyed jobs, and businesses, and even made it impossible for people to stay in the country," he said.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s Naib-e-Ameer Prof Mujibur Rahman was the special guest at the conference.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer Dr Md Keramat Ali presided over the rally and Metropolitan Jamaat Secretary Imaz Uddin Mondal moderated the event.
Central and regional leaders of Jamaat also addressed the gathering.
