Six people have died in two separate motorcycle accidents on highways in Chattogram and Gopalganj on Friday (17 January).
In the first incident, three individuals were killed in a collision near Sufia Road on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Chattogram's Mirsharai Upazila during the early hours.
The deceased, identified as Sony Barua, 40, Rubel Barua, 40, and Nipu Barua, 45, hailed from Maini Barua Para in Abut Torab Union.
Sub-Inspector Borhan Uddin from the Jorarganj Highway Police Outpost reported that the motorcycle attempted a U-turn around 2:30am when a Chattogram-bound vehicle struck it from behind.
The vehicle involved has not yet been identified. The victims had attended an event in Mirsharai Sadar and were returning home at the time of the accident.
In a separate incident in Gopalganj’s Kashiani Upazila, three young men were killed after their motorcycle crashed into a car around 6am near the Sampan Highway Restaurant on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway.
The victims, identified as Dipu Das, 18, Bishal Nag, 19, and Hridoy Mridha, 18, were all residents of Kashiani Upazila.
Officer-in-Charge Md Rakibuzzaman of Bhanga Highway Police Station stated that the trio was heading to the Kalinagar area of Faridpur's Boalmari Upazila to sample date juice when their motorcycle collided with a car amidst heavy fog.
Dipu and Bishal died on the spot, while Hridoy succumbed to his injuries at Kashiani Upazila Health Complex.
Police in both districts are working to identify the vehicles involved in the accidents.
The bodies of the victims will be handed over to their families following the completion of legal formalities.
