The Acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India, Md Nural Islam, was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs in South Block today, 13 January 2025, at 2:00 pm. The meeting addressed concerns regarding security measures at the India-Bangladesh border, particularly the ongoing construction of the fence.

During the meeting, Indian authorities reaffirmed that all security measures, including the fencing, were being carried out following established protocols and agreements between the two governments, as well as between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

India reiterated its commitment to ensuring a secure, crime-free border by tackling cross-border criminal activities, smuggling, trafficking, and the movement of criminals. The measures include barbed wire fencing, border lighting, the installation of technical devices, and cattle fences to enhance security.

India also conveyed its expectation that all previous agreements and understandings between the two countries would be implemented by Bangladesh, emphasising the importance of a cooperative approach to combat cross-border crimes.
