A red alert has been issued after Shah Alam, a former officer-in-charge (OC) of Uttara East Police Station, escaped from police custody on Thursday night. In response to the incident, the current OC of Uttara East Police Station, Md Mohibullah, has been suspended.
The Police Headquarters has directed all police stations across the country to apprehend Shah Alam, who was arrested on Wednesday night in connection with a murder case filed on 2 September related to the anti-discrimination student movement. His court appearance was scheduled for Thursday, but he managed to flee during the transfer process.
Earlier, a duty assistant sub-inspector (ASI) has been suspended for alleged negligence. However, the ASI's identity has not been disclosed.
Shah Alam, who joined Uttara East Police Station on 1 August, is reportedly facing multiple charges, including murder allegations linked to the anti-discrimination protests.
Police sources confirmed that Shah Alam was arrested by Uttara East officers on Wednesday and was held in custody until his scheduled court presentation. The escape occurred during the preparation for his transfer to the court.
