Seven people, including the drivers of two CNG-run autorickshaws, were abducted by a gang on the Hoaikyong-Shamlapur road in Teknaf on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 7:30am, with locals reporting that seven individuals, including the two drivers, were taken by a group of miscreants. The names of the victims have not yet been confirmed.
Sub-Inspector of the Baharchhara Police Outpost Shovan Kumar Shaha said, “After receiving the news, we immediately responded and arrived at the scene.”
He said that the exact number of people abducted remains unclear; however, they recovered the two autorickshaws from the location.
Shamlapur CNG autorickshaws lineman Abdur Rahim said that at approximately 8 am, a group of armed robbers stopped the two CNG-run autorickshaws traveling from Hoaikyong to Shamlapur.
This abduction follows another alarming incident in which a group of 20-25 armed robbers kidnapped a grocery shopkeeper Jasim Uddin from the Boro Dail area of Baharchhara union on Monday.
The robbers reportedly took him at gunpoint from his shop to the nearby hills. The victim’s location is still unknown and local authorities are investigating the incident.
On the same day, a group of 17 individuals, including Rohingyas and local workers, were kidnapped while working for the Forest Department in the Jadimura Hills area of Teknaf.
These victims have not yet been rescued and their families claim that a ransom of Tk 1 lakh per person is being demanded by the kidnappers.
Meanwhile, police, RAB and forest department personnel have been conducting an operation to rescue the abductees through Rangikhali in Hnila since morning.
