Dhaka and the rest of the country are not expected to experience any severe cold wave this month, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
However, mild cold waves are currently sweeping across northern districts, with a nationwide onset of cold waves anticipated in January.
During this period, an increase in fog is expected, which may delay sunrise and lower maximum temperatures, intensifying the cold sensation, BMD said in its latest weather update on Sunday (29 December).
The statement clarified that while a severe cold wave is unlikely in December, temperatures across the country are projected to drop significantly in January.
Some areas may witness limited sunshine during late afternoons, with northern districts likely to remain enveloped in fog.
The weather forecast indicats that night-time temperatures across the country might rise by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius, while daytime temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.
Weather conditions are predicted to be predominantly dry, with partly cloudy skies and light to moderate fog at certain locations from midnight to morning.
Synoptic analysis revealed that an extension of the sub-continental high-pressure ridge is spread over West Bengal and adjoining areas, while the season's typical low-pressure zone remains over the southern Bay of Bengal, extending to the northern Bay of Bengal.
The forecast for Monday (30 December), anticipates a slight dip in both day and night temperatures. Weather conditions across the country are expected to remain mostly dry, with partly cloudy skies and light to moderate fog persisting from midnight to morning in some regions.
The extended forecast for the next five days predicts a further drop in day and night temperatures, underscoring the likelihood of colder conditions across the country.
