Those involved in conspiring to sabotage the efforts of the interim government will face justice under all circumstances, said LGRD and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud following a massive fire that gutted multiple ministry offices at the secretariat on Thursday (26 December).

“The extent of the damage from the fire remains unknown,” Asif Mahmud stated in a Facebook post this morning about the incident.

“We were working on embezzlement and corruption cases within the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives in recent times. Evidence of the misappropriation of several thousand crore taka had also been uncovered,” he added.

He also serves as the youth and sports adviser.

The blaze, which broke out in building no 7 of the secretariat, housed offices of the LGRD and cooperatives ministry as well as the youth and sports ministry.

Asif Mahmud, who was in Nilphamari at the time of the fire, mentioned that he was making every effort to return to Dhaka as swiftly as possible.
