A Dhaka court has sent former principal secretary to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and former National Board of Revenue (NBR) chairman Nazibur Rahman to jail in connection with killing of BNP activist Makbul in 2022.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the order on Wednesday after end of his three-day remand.
Earlier in the day, police produced Nazibur before the court appealing to keep him in jail until the investigation is over.
On 18 December, a Dhaka court granted him a three-day remand in the case after the hearing.
Nazibur Rahman was arrested from the capital's Ramna area on 6 October.
According to the case documents, Makbul got injured on 7 December in 2022 as police charged batons and opened fire at the BNP men in front of the BNP headquarters in Naya Paltan in the capital. Later, the BNP man succumbed to injuries.
Following the incident, an individual named Mahfuzur Rahman filed a case against 256 people, including Sheikh Hasina, with Paltan Police Station on 30 September.
