The CA Press Wing Facts has dismissed reports from Indian media claiming 2,200 incidents of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh in 2024, calling them misleading and highly exaggerated.
Several Indian outlets, including India Today and Anandabazar, citing India’s Ministry of External Affairs, reported on Friday that Bangladesh witnessed 47 incidents of violence against Hindus in 2022, 302 in 2023, and 2,200 in 2024.
In response, the CA Press Wing, citing the independent human rights organization Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), stated that the actual number of violent incidents against religious minorities in Bangladesh between January and November 2024 was 138. These incidents included attacks on 368 houses and injuries to 82 people.
The Interim Government of Bangladesh reaffirmed its commitment to investigating all reported incidents and bringing perpetrators to justice. Between August 4 and December 10, at least 97 cases were filed, and 75 individuals were arrested for alleged attacks on religious minorities, according to police headquarters.
The CA Press Wing Facts also highlighted that many of these incidents occurred between August 5 and August 8, during a period when there was no functioning government in the country. It emphasized that most of these attacks were politically motivated.
“We urge everyone to refrain from spreading misleading information regarding hate crimes,” the statement added, reiterating Bangladesh’s commitment to protecting the rights of religious minorities and ensuring accountability for acts of violence.
