AF Hassan Ariff, adviser to the ministries of land, and civil aviation and tourism, passed away on Friday while receiving treatment at Labaid Specialized Hospital in Dhaka.
He breathed his last at around 3:30 pm, according to family sources.
Ariff’s first namaz-e-janaza will be held at Baitul Aman Mosque on Dhanmondi Road 7 after the Isha prayers this evening.
Another janaza will be held at the High Court premises at 11 am on Saturday, according to the Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry’s notification.
Decisions regarding his burial will be made after the arrival of his daughter, who is currently abroad.
AF Hassan Ariff was appointed as an adviser to the interim government on 8 August. The following day, he was entrusted with the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives.
Later, on 27 August, he took on additional responsibilities as the adviser to the Ministry of Land.
On 10 November, his duties with the LGRD Ministry ended, and he was assigned the portfolios of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism alongside the land ministry.
Ariff was a distinguished senior advocate of the Supreme Court, with a legal career that began in 1970. He was initially enrolled as an advocate of the Calcutta High Court, West Bengal, India, in 1967.
He led his legal practice as the head of chambers at AF Hassan Ariff & Associates.
From October 2001 to April 2005, Ariff served as the attorney general of Bangladesh.
Between January 2008 and January 2009, he acted as an adviser to the ministries of law, land, and religious affairs under the Fakhruddin Ahmed-led caretaker government.
