344 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country

Five more deaths from dengue were reported in the 24 hours until Thursday morning, bringing the total fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh this year to 541, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Among the latest deaths, two occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), one in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), one in Chattogram Division, and one in Rangpur Division, outside the city corporation areas.

In the same period, 344 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country. Of these, 69 were in hospitals under DNCC, and 70 were in hospitals under DSCC.

Currently, 1,840 dengue patients are receiving treatment in hospitals nationwide. Since the beginning of 2024, the total number of reported dengue cases has reached 97,947.

Dengue remains a significant public health concern in Bangladesh, with last year marking the deadliest year on record. In 2023, the disease claimed 1,705 lives out of 321,179 cases, with 318,749 patients recovering.

Efforts to combat dengue continue as authorities urge the public to take preventive measures to control the spread of the disease.
