The government will provide Tk 30 lakh to each family of the martyrs of the student-led mass uprising for their rehabilitation.

"This money will be provided from July Shaheed Smriti Foundation," Mahfuj Alam, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, told a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday.

Mahfuz Alam said if it is necessary to give more money, after verification it will be given.

He said it is not the case that only those who were martyred in July and August are being rehabilitated, but initiatives are being taken to rehabilitate the families of those who were injured.

The government will take a visible step next week to this end, he added.

According to official government data, more than 700 people were killed in the movement. However, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement's sub-committee on health affairs claimed on 28 September that the actual number of deaths is much higher, stating that 1,581 people lost their lives during the student-led mass protests across the country.
