A moderate earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck near Chaing in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar (Burma) at 08:25 local time on Sunday (13 April).
According to preliminary data from global seismic monitors, the epicentre lay close to the central part of the country, a region known for its occasional tectonic activity.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties, although residents in nearby towns reported feeling strong tremors.
Authorities in Myanmar are assessing the situation and monitoring for potential aftershocks.
The quake, though not classified as severe, serves as a reminder of the seismic vulnerability of the region which lies near the complex tectonic boundary between the Indian and Eurasian plates.
