Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashraful Zaman Siddiqui is set to visit India from 16 to 19 February to engage in high-level discussions with Border Security Force (BSF) Director General Daljit Singh Chaudhary.

According to sources, the meeting between the two border security chiefs will address pressing issues, including the implementation of single-row fencing (SRF) along border areas currently lacking barbed wire. India is eager to expedite this process to secure its boundaries.

However, the BGB has raised objections, citing international border laws that prohibit the construction of defensive structures within 150 yards of the boundary.

The matter remains a point of contention, as attempts by India to build fences in certain areas have been thwarted due to resistance from the BGB.

The talks are also expected to cover critical topics such as tackling drug trafficking and cross-border smuggling.

Bangladesh shares a 4,096-kilometre-long border with India, governed by regulations that restrict construction within 150 yards of the boundary.

Despite this, several instances of fence construction in violation of international laws have been reported, prompting intervention by the BGB.

The outcome of the discussions will likely have significant implications for the future of border security and bilateral relations.
