In a historic feat of campaign spending, the 2024 presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris has recorded the highest election expenditure in United States history.

According to the Financial Times, the Democratic and Republican camps’ combined expenditure has soared to $3.5 billion.

The report reveals that Harris has raised over $2.3 billion in campaign funds and has already spent approximately $1.9 billion. In comparison, Trump has raised around $1.8 billion, of which he has expended nearly $1.6 billion.

With both candidates’ campaign expenditures tallying to $3.5 billion in 2024, this marks the highest spending record in the history of US presidential elections.

Campaign funds of US presidential candidates are typically amassed through individual, party, and public contributions, as well as through political action committees.

This year has been no exception, with substantial donations from numerous American billionaires emerging within both the Democratic and Republican camps.
