Two cops accused in Abu Sayed killing in Rangpur arrested

Two policemen have been arrested in connection with the killing of Abu Sayed, a student of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur who was killed by police gunfire during the anti-discrimination quota movement in Rangpur, police said.

The arrested police personnel are ASI Md Amir Ali and Constable Sujan Chandra Roy.

Later, they were handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI), ABM Zakir Hossain, the superintendent of police at Rangpur PBI, confirmed to UNB on Monday (9 September) evening.

He said these two members were under surveillance at the police line. Today, they were arrested and handed over to PBI by the Metropolitan Police.

On 3 August, these two policemen ASI Ameer Ali and Constable Sujan Chandra Roy were dismissed.

Meanwhile, a press release of Rangpur Metropolitan Police said that Abu Sayed, a twelfth batch student of Begum Rokeya University's English Department, was killed in the anti-discrimination student movement on 16 July, in the afternoon - thus becoming the first student killed in police firing in the movement.

The arrested duo were handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation on Monday for legal action based on the requisition of the investigating officer of the case.

Earlier, Sayed’s elder brother Ramzan Ali filed a murder case against 17 people at Tajhat Police Station.
