Adviser to the interim government on commerce ministry Dr Salehuddin Ahmed today said the interim government will not compromise with any syndicate which was widely blamed for commodity price manipulation.

"We have no agenda. The interim government is neither political nor administrative. There is no affection or resentment towards anyone. We will not compromise with any business syndicate," he added.

The adviser said this while speaking to reporters after a review meeting of the overall market and commodity price situation of the country at the commerce ministry conference room in the city.

Salehuddin said the government is working to overcome all obstacles and create an international standard business environment across the country.

“During the meeting, the businessmen did not want anything unreasonable. There are some obstacles in the business, some problems at the ports. They have requested for help.

We have confirmed them, we are working to overcome all obstacles,” he added.

Responding to a question, the adviser said, the imports of essentials, including fertilizer, pesticides, fuel or food, are not being disrupted due to dollar crisis.

“Opening letters of credit (LCs) has not decreased at all. Some banks have problems . . . Bangladesh Bank is working to solve them. The import of essentials is not disrupted due to the dollar crisis. There is no shortage of essential and other products, including fertilizer, pesticides, fuel or food. Bangladesh Bank is managing as best as it can,” he added.

Among others, Commerce Secretary Md Selim Uddin, Food Secretary Md. Ismiel Hossain and Agriculture Secretary Dr. Mohammad Emdad Ullah Mian were present at the meeting.
