After weeks of drama and counter-drama, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is expected to embrace a new president this week.

Nazmul Hasan, the current president of the BCB, has reportedly agreed to resign. The BCB has called for a board meeting on Wednesday at the National Sports Council, and sources from the board said they are expecting Nazmul to submit his resignation letter in this meeting.

After the fall of the government led by Bangladesh’s longest-serving prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, whose ruling became increasingly autocratic, Nazmul fled abroad like many others in the former ruling party, the Bangladesh Awami League.

He is currently residing in England and is expected to send his resignation letter from there.

Jalal Yunus, who previously oversaw cricket operations at the BCB, has resigned from his position. He was appointed to the board by the NSC, which has also requested the resignation of another appointee, Sazzadul Alam Bobby.

Faruk Ahmed, the former Bangladesh team captain, is expected to become the new BCB president. However, neither the board nor Faruk has confirmed that yet.

To replace them as the appointee of the NSC, the names of Faruk and cricket coach Nazmul Abedeen Fahim came to the fore. While Faruk may take over the president’s rule, Faheem may get other important role.

However, Faheem denied any communication with the NSC. He rather said changes at the BCB are required.

“Bangladesh is going through many changes now, and BCB also needs some changes,” Faheem said in a phone interview with UNB. “I believe new blood can bring new ideas to the board.”
