Since the fall of the Awami League government, a wave of resignations has swept across various sectors in Bangladesh, including the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF).

Senior Vice-President Abdus Salam Murshedi has departed prematurely from his position.

Pressure is mounting for BFF President Kazi Salahuddin and the head of the women’s wing, Mahfuza Akhter Kiran, to step down.

However, President Salahuddin remains resolute, asserting, "I am not an ordinary person to succumb to such pressures."

Last week, an ultimatum demanded the resignation of President Salahuddin, Mahfuza Akhter Kiran, and Vice-President Abdus Salam Murshedy.

Following the failure to meet these demands, the protesters organised a March to BFF on Sunday, expressing their dissent through protests.

In a recent interview with a leading national media outlet, Salahuddin questioned their contribution to the country’s football scene.

He stated, "First and foremost, what have they contributed to the country’s football? I have announced that the BFF elections will be held on 26 October. Whether I will contest in those elections is not for them to decide. If I choose to stand again, who has given them the right to issue threats or engage in vandalism?"

He affirmed his decision to not resign, declaring, "I will not resign. I will run for election again. I will not abandon football under threats."

Salahuddin, who has contributed significantly to the country’s independence and football history, has received various national awards during different governmental regimes.

He defends his stance by highlighting his distinguished background, stating, "I am not an ordinary individual. I have a long history in football, representing and captaining the country. I am a freedom fighter. I have received national sports awards, the Independence Award, Victory Day Award, and Sheikh Kamal Lifetime Achievement Award under Ziaur Rahman, HM Ershad, Khaleda Zia, and the Awami League government. I will leave football on my own terms, not under threats."
