The government is bracing for potential cyber-attacks targeting export-oriented sectors such as ready-made garments, telecommunications, banking, power, and energy, said State Minister for Post, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak.
"Sectors including power and energy, telecom, banking, and ready-made garments are particularly at risk of significant cyber incursions," he said at a review meeting on cyber security held at the ICT Tower in Agargaon on Tuesday (30 July).
He said that over 50,000 cyber attacks have been launched against 8 government websites in the last 10 days.
Additionally, 70 educational institutions have fallen victim to such attacks, although no data breaches have been reported, he added.
The state minister advised organisations to conduct regular security audits and warned against the use of unlicensed, pirated software, which exacerbates cyber risks.
He also noted that the use of VPNs increases vulnerability to cyber threats.
Organisations were urged to report any cyber attacks to the ICT Division promptly.
Representatives from 35 key performance indicators (KPIs) were present at the meeting, where the state minister reviewed the current state of cyber security and outlined the ongoing situation.
