Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has announced Tk 5,594 crore budget for the financial year 2024-25.
The budget was approved unanimously at a meeting held at Nagar Bhaban Hall Room in Dhaka's Gulshan-2 on Sunday.
The revised budget of fiscal 2023-24 was also approved at the meeting.
DNCC's CEO Mir Khairul Alam delivered an introductory speech while DNCC's chief accounts officer Md Barkat Hayat placed the revised budget of the fiscal 2023-24 and budget of the fiscal 2024-25.
The city corporation collected record revenues of Tk 1,078 crore in 2023-24 fiscal, while its revenue earnings have increased by 76 percent during the last four years.
DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam said, "There was a directive from the Prime Minister that the city corporations would have to stand on their own feet and the city corporations would have to raise their capability. According to that directive, we have started working to raise the capability of the DNCC.
“There is no alternative to revenue earnings to be sustainable. We have been able to increase the revenue steadily after taking over the charge," he added.
“In FY 2024-25, 53% of DNCC's total budget will be met from its own funds,” he said.
The mayor said, "DNCC has created a new milestone in revenue collection without increasing the tax rate. The collection of holding tax and trade licenses online has increased revenue collection significantly."
People can pay DNCC holding tax online from home. The online system has made it possible to curb corruption and irregularities, ensuring transparency and accountability, Atiq said.
Moderated by DNCC Secretary Mohammad Masud Alam Siddique, the meeting was attended by DNCC's Chief Engineer Brigadier General Md Moin Uddin, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, Chief Waste Management Officer Captain Mohammad Fida Hasan, DNCC's all departments' heads, councilors and other officials.
