A case has been filed against 900 individuals in connection with the attack and vandalism at a Bata showroom in Sylhet city during a protest rally condemning violence in Palestine.
The complaint was lodged on Wednesday by Mostakim Billah, area manager of Bata Sylhet, confirmed Ziaul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Model Police Station.
This marks the second case related to an attack on the Bata showroom. Earlier, on 8 April, Abdul Matin Sarkar, owner of Royal Mark Hotel, filed a separate case against 30-40 unidentified individuals, alleging that valuables worth Tk20-25 lakh were damaged during the attack.
The violence erupted on 7 April when a group of protesters took to the streets in Sylhet city to denounce the genocide in Palestine. Amid the demonstrations, a mob vandalized multiple establishments, including Bata, KFC, Hotel Royal Mark, Unimart, and Pizza Haat.
Meanwhile, in Khulna, authorities have sued 2,900 individuals over similar attacks on Bata, Domino’s, and KFC outlets.
So far, 21 people have been arrested in connection with the Sylhet attack, according to OC Ziaul.
