London’s busiest airport, Heathrow, has been shut down until midnight due to a power outage caused by a fire at an electrical substation, airport authorities have confirmed.
The disruption has left passengers in a difficult situation, reports Reuters.
On Friday, 21 March, Heathrow Airport officials announced on X (formerly Twitter): "To ensure the safety of our passengers and staff, Heathrow Airport will remain closed until 23:59 on 21 March."
Passengers have been advised not to travel to the airport during this period and to contact their respective airlines for further updates.
The airport authority has apologised for the inconvenience.
Meanwhile, flight tracking website FlightRadar24 reported that at least 120 flights currently in the air may be rerouted to alternative airports or returned to their points of departure due to the disruption.
