Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has stated that China remains committed to advancing its relationship with Bangladesh, irrespective of which government is in power.
He expressed optimism that the upcoming visit of the chief adviser to China would further bolster mutual understanding between the two nations.
Speaking at a seminar titled "China’s Image in Bangladesh", organised by the Bangladesh Centre for Alternatives (BCA) at the Sheraton Hotel on Tuesday (11 March), Yao emphasised Beijing’s unwavering stance on its ties with Dhaka.
Reaffirming China’s support for the interim government, he said, “China’s relationship is not bound to any particular government. It is rooted in the mutual benefits and interests of our people. No matter how international or domestic circumstances change, China’s policy on Bangladesh will remain consistent.”
Addressing the Rohingya crisis, the envoy stressed that China would take all necessary steps to facilitate the repatriation process.
“Sending them back to Myanmar is the only viable solution to this crisis, and China will continue its dialogue with Myanmar to ensure this happens,” he stated, while underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts from the international community.
Regarding Myanmar’s internal challenges, Yao noted that China was engaging with both the military and the Arakan Army to foster a political resolution.
However, he also underscored the necessity of support from global entities such as ASEAN and the United Nations, warning that the absence of such collaboration could exacerbate the crisis.
The ambassador called upon all stakeholders to work collectively to address the ongoing issues, reinforcing China’s commitment to regional stability and diplomatic engagement.
