Another victim succumbs to injuries from Gazipur cylinder fire

Another patient, who sustained burns in the Gazipur cylinder fire incident, has passed away at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

Mansur Akan, 32, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, Hossain Imam, assistant director of the hospital, told Bangladesh First.

Akan suffered severe burns covering 100% of his body.

Originally from Bogura's Shibganj upazila, Mansur worked as a mason and resided in Gazipur.

With Mansur's death, the toll from the incident rises to two out of the 32 patients affected. Yesterday, another victim, Solaiman Mollah, 45, who sustained burns covering 95% of his body, also lost his battle at the hospital.

The situation remains critical for at least a dozen more patients, according to hospital sources.

On 13 March, a gas cylinder exploded due to a leak in Gazipur's Kaliakair, injuring 32 people, including women and children.

Currently, 29 patients are undergoing treatment at the hospital, while one has been discharged after receiving medical care.
