CSE marks International Women's Day with 'Ring the Bell for Gender Equality' programme

Chittagong Stock Exchange PLC (CSE) commemorated International Women's Day at its headquarters in Chattogram by organising a programme titled "Ring the Bell for Gender Equality."

Globally, this year's theme for the event is "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress."

The "Ring the Bell" programme, celebrated by stock exchanges worldwide in collaboration with the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative, World Federation of Exchanges, UN Women, UN Global Compact, and International Finance Corporation, aims to raise awareness about the significance of gender equality for business and sustainable development.

M Shaifur Rahman Mazumdar, Managing Director of CSE, chaired the event, with Miss Sonia Hossain, Head of HR & Legal Affairs, and other CSE officials in attendance.

In his welcoming address, the Managing Director emphasized the need for increased participation of women in the capital market, highlighting recent positive changes. He stressed the importance of fostering a women-friendly environment within the Stock Exchange, providing support and ensuring transparency and inclusivity. He expressed optimism about the growing contribution of women to the GDP and emphasised the necessity of equal opportunities for women to promote gender equality across all sectors.

Sonia Hossain echoed these sentiments, urging for the creation of supportive environments both at home and in society. She emphasized the need to dispel mistrust towards women and encouraged providing them with opportunities and support to succeed as entrepreneurs, professionals, and colleagues.

Various officials of CSE also shared their perspectives and experiences on gender equality during the event.

In his closing remarks, the Managing Director expressed gratitude to all participants for their contributions to the success of the event.

The program served as a platform to advocate for gender equality and promote the empowerment of women within the capital market and beyond.
