Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed profound condolences on the passing of former US President Jimmy Carter, hailing him as a "remarkable leader, a champion of human rights, and a tireless advocate for peace and democracy."

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the US government, Yunus described President Carter as a true friend of Bangladesh, whose efforts significantly strengthened the Bangladesh-US relationship during his presidency and beyond.

Highlighting Carter's contributions through the Carter Center, Yunus noted the impactful work in Bangladesh, particularly in empowering women, promoting good governance, and fostering democracy. He fondly recalled Carter's 1986 visit to Bangladesh, which served as a source of great inspiration for the nation.

"President Carter was not only an iconic figure in global politics but also a cherished friend of mine," Yunus wrote, adding that their conversations at Nobel Laureates' gatherings were marked by Carter's wisdom, humility, and steadfast commitment to social justice.

On behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, Yunus extended condolences to the people of the United States and the bereaved Carter family, while praying for the salvation of his soul.

Carter, the 39th President of the United States and a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, was widely admired for his dedication to global peace, democracy, and humanitarian causes. His legacy continues to inspire leaders worldwide.

Jimmy Carter died at his home in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday. He was 100.
