AF Hassan Ariff, adviser to the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism during the interim government, was laid to rest on Monday (23 December) morning.
His burial took place at 10am at the Mirpur Intellectuals' Cemetery.
The nation is observing state mourning today to honour AF Hassan Ariff's passing.
As part of the observance, the national flag is being flown at half-mast across all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, and educational establishments, as well as at all Bangladesh missions abroad.
Special prayers are being held in mosques across the country, seeking forgiveness for the departed soul. Other religious institutions are also conducting ceremonies to pray for his eternal peace.
Born in 1941 in Kolkata, AF Hassan Ariff completed his secondary and higher secondary education at St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata. He later earned his undergraduate and LLB degrees from the University of Calcutta.
Hassan Ariff began his legal career in 1967 at the Calcutta High Court. Subsequently, he moved to Dhaka and began practising law at the Bangladesh High Court. From 2001 to 28 April 2005, he served as the Attorney General of Bangladesh.
In 2007, under the caretaker government led by Fakhruddin Ahmed, he served as an adviser overseeing the Ministries of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, along with the Ministries of Land and Religious Affairs.
AF Hassan Ariff passed away on Friday (20 December), following a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka.
