The family of Chattogram lawyer Saiful Islam Alif, who was brutally murdered, has filed a murder case naming 46 suspects. Jamal Uddin, the father of Saiful, lodged the case at the port city's Kotwali Police Station last night (29 November).

The case names 31 individuals, including Chandan, Aman Das, Shubho Kanti Das, and others, all residents of the Bandil Road Sebak Colony under the Kotwali Police Station. An additional 10-15 unidentified individuals were also accused.

The unrest began on 26 November when the bail plea of a former ISKCON leader and spokesperson of the Sanatan Sammilito Jagoron Jote, Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, was rejected by a Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Chinmoy’s legal team subsequently sought bail from the District and Sessions Judge’s Court.

Following the rejection, Chinmoy’s followers launched a violent protest, blocking a police van and causing chaos on the court premises. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd, but the situation escalated further, with the mob attacking law enforcement and vandalizing the area.

Amid the unrest, Saiful Islam Alif was killed by the attackers.
