Police have filed a case against "unidentified" students, alleging that those protesting for the reformation of the quota system in government jobs assaulted police and vandalized a police vehicle.

Khalilur Rahman, a driver of the Rajarbag Police Line, filed the case on Friday (12 July) with Shahbagh Police Station, confirmed DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Ramna Zone) Shah Alam Md Akhtarul Islam.

The case was filed on allegations of vandalising a police vehicle during the protest rally at Shahbagh, with many students listed as unidentified, said the police officer.

Students across the country began protesting against the quota system for government jobs earlier this month, following a High Court order on June 30 to restore the quota for descendants of freedom fighters, which had been abolished in 2018.

Now, the students are continuing their protests, blocking highways, rail lines, and major intersections in Dhaka to press their one-point demand for the abolition of illogical and irrelevant quotas in all grades of government jobs through legislation in parliament.
