Students of Jagannath University (JU) staged a demonstration on Monday (11 November), at the Ministry of Education, demanding inclusion alongside Dhaka University in a University Grants Commission (UGC) pilot project.
The protest, led under the banner of general students, began at 11:30amwith a mass procession originating from the university campus, drawing participation from approximately 2,000 students.
The students' three-point demand includes bringing corrupt project directors, appointed during the previous autocratic government, under legal scrutiny, and appointing a competent military officer as project director within seven days. They also called for the handover of the second campus project to military management and demanded a clear roadmap for its implementation, with priority given to student housing.
Additionally, they urged for the immediate acquisition of the remaining 11 acres of land and the annulment of all unethical agreements regarding the old campus made during the autocratic regime.
Movement organiser AKM Rakib stated, "Today, we will submit a memorandum to the ministry. We are allowing three working days for the resolution of these issues. Should no progress be made within this period, we will be compelled to escalate our programme."
