As the country is grappling with a fuel crisis and a shortfall in electricity supply, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources has issued directives to minimise the use of air conditioning systems during the forthcoming winter season.
On Monday (28 October), the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources released a formal directive outlining these measures.
The advisory states that from November to February, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, alongside the Ministries of Road Transport and Bridges and Railways, as well as their affiliated departments, agencies, and companies, should limit the use of air conditioning systems wherever possible.
This directive is anticipated to enhance electricity supply for irrigation, increase fertiliser production, and augment gas supply to industrial facilities, as noted in the statement.
It is noteworthy that the government had previously instructed all ministries to implement measures to reduce electricity consumption by 25%.
The ministry has sought cooperation from all parties in this endeavour.
