BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for the immediate completion of constitutional reforms and the swift organisation of elections under the leadership of Dr Muhammad Yunus.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday (12 August), at the party’s central office in Nayapaltan, Mirza Fakhrul emphasised the need for rapid implementation of the reform decisions made by the interim government.

He stressed the urgency of transferring power to elected representatives of the people and highlighted the necessity of addressing the public’s demands and needs in the reform process.

Regarding the BNP’s upcoming activities, he announced a two-day programme to institutionalise International Democracy Day.

On 14 September, a rally will be held at the Shaheed Minar, followed by another gathering in Nayapaltan on 15 September.

Additionally, a democracy rally will take place in a divisional city on the same day.

In addressing concerns over the health of Khaleda Zia, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, her personal physician and a member of the BNP’s Standing Committee, criticised the former government for neglecting her medical needs while she remains in prison.

He stated that steps would be taken to arrange advanced medical treatment abroad following a thorough review of her condition.
