Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by SpaceX, will be required to route its commercial broadband traffic through a local broadband gateway or international internet gateway (IIG) when it commences commercial operations in Bangladesh, the Chief Adviser's office announced on Tuesday (25 March).

The move aligns with the country’s Non-Geostationary Satellite Orbit (NGSO) policy, which aims to ensure greater regulatory oversight and smoother integration of satellite internet services into Bangladesh's digital infrastructure.

Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has directed relevant authorities to ensure Starlink’s commercial launch within the next 90 days.

During its trial period, the service relied on a foreign satellite broadband gateway for its operations.

The switch to a local gateway is expected to streamline Starlink's integration into Bangladesh's internet framework while also providing more effective oversight of the service.

The commercial introduction of Starlink is anticipated to improve internet access in remote and underserved regions, marking a significant step towards transforming the country’s digital landscape.
