Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has underscored Bangladesh’s strategic geographical advantage, asserting that its future is poised for remarkable success.

Speaking as the chief guest at the annual conference organised by the Bangladesh Administrative Services at the China Friendship Conference Centre on Sunday (16 February) night, Yunus reflected on the country's potential, recalling a 1987 conference where he presented a paper titled "Growing Up with Giants".

He had then argued that Bangladesh, as a nation, occupies an enviable position—one that offers unparalleled opportunities for growth.

“Our two neighbouring giants, India and China, are advancing rapidly. Since we are situated between them, they cannot afford to leave us behind. We will rise with their momentum,” he remarked, reiterating his long-held belief that Bangladesh’s future is inherently promising due to its location.

Yunus further elaborated on the country's untapped resources, particularly its vast coastline, which he described as a "gateway to the world" that has yet to be fully utilised. He asserted that once Bangladesh begins to harness this opportunity, no force will be able to restrain its economic growth.

Additionally, he highlighted the potential of hydropower stored within the Himalayan range to the north, suggesting that a robust partnership with neighbouring Nepal could unlock access to this energy reservoir.

“The 40-mile gap between Nepal and Bangladesh is all that separates us from this immense resource. It is merely a matter of establishing the right relationships,” he added.

With these remarks, the chief adviser painted a vision of a Bangladesh ready to capitalise on its strategic positioning, unlocking new avenues for economic progress and prosperity.
