On 3 March 1575, the Mughal Emperor Akbar’s forces, under the command of Munim Khan, decisively defeated the Bengali army led by Daud Khan Karrani at the Battle of Tukaroi.
Fought near modern-day Balasore in Odisha, this battle marked a pivotal moment in Mughal expansion into Bengal.
Despite fierce resistance, the Bengal Sultanate’s forces were overwhelmed, forcing Daud Khan to retreat and eventually sign the Treaty of Katak, ceding control of Bengal and Bihar to the Mughals.
This victory not only consolidated Akbar’s rule over eastern India but also set the stage for deeper Mughal influence in the region.
