United States is set to engage in discussions on economic matters with Bangladesh's Interim Government Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, next week.

The talks are expected to cover the country’s economic policies, financial sector, and potential reforms, reported British newspaper The Financial Times on Tuesday (10 September).

US Treasury Assistant Under Secretary for International Finance Brent Neiman expressed optimism that through necessary reforms, Bangladesh would be able to address its economic vulnerabilities and lay the foundation for sustained growth and development.

The report further noted that officials from the US Treasury, State, and Commerce Departments are anticipated to discuss Bangladesh’s financial and monetary policies. The current state of the country's financial sector is also likely to be on the agenda.

Discussions are scheduled to take place in the capital, Dhaka, this Saturday and Sunday.

However, officials from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Finance and the Chief Adviser’s Office have stated that they are not aware of the meeting.
