A low-pressure system has formed over the Bay of Bengal, prompting the Bangladesh Meteorological Department to forecast rain and thunderstorms across all divisions over the next 24 hours, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has reported the formation of a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal, with rain and thunderstorms forecast across all divisions.

In its weather bulletin for Friday (6 September), BMD indicated that light to moderate rain or thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds, may occur in several places in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, a few places in Dhaka, Mymensingh, and Barishal divisions, and at isolated locations in Rangpur, Rajshahi, and Khulna divisions.

Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in some areas of Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Day and night temperatures across the country are expected to remain nearly unchanged, it added.

For Saturday (7 September) the forecast suggests light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds may occur in some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, as well as at isolated locations in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions.

Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in some parts of the country, with temperatures likely to rise slightly during the day and night.

BMD further stated that a low-pressure system has developed over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north-western Bay of Bengal.

The axis of the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and northern Bangladesh to Assam. Monsoon activity over Bangladesh is currently weak, while it remains moderate over the northern Bay of Bengal.
