The national grid will receive a supply of 18 million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas daily from two wells in the Rashidpur gas field.
With this latest addition, the daily contribution of the Rashidpur gas field to the national grid has risen to 66mmcf.
State Minister for Energy Nasrul Hamid inaugurated the gas supply from well-2 and 9 of Rashidpur Gas Field on Sunday (18 February).
He was accompanied by Petrobangla Chairman Janendra Nath Sarker, Sylhet Gas Fields Company Managing Director Mizanur Rahman, and senior officials.
Mizanur Rahman said gas extraction from well-2 had been suspended for a long time but resumed after initiating a workover.
He added that the well will now supply 8mmcf of gas to the national grid every day.
Furthermore, he explained that well-9 was new, and gas extraction was not possible initially due to the absence of a connected pipeline. However, it has now been added to the national grid after setting up a pipeline to the well.
According to Petrobangla sources, the Rashidpur gas field was discovered in 1960 and has an estimated reserves of 2433 billion cubic feet.
Out of the 11 wells drilled in the Rashidpur field, gas has been found in 9 wells.
