The Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) has successfully constructed 237,000 safely managed twin-pit toilets in 30 districts of Bangladesh as part of the Bangladesh Rural Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for Human Capital Development Project.

This initiative, launched by the Government of Bangladesh in 2021, aims to meet Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG-6), which calls for "clean water and sanitation for all."

Despite significant strides in reducing open defecation, the availability of safely managed toilets in Bangladesh remains inadequate.

To address this, PKSF has also installed safely managed piped water supply systems in 60,000 homes.

The project, co-funded by the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, is being implemented in 182 upazilas through 87 partner organizations (POs).

The progress was highlighted during the 3rd Annual Coordination Meeting held at PKSF Bhaban in Dhaka.

PKSF Additional Managing Director Md Jashim Uddin, who anchored the event, emphasised the project's 5-year timeline and its broad impact.

World Bank Senior Water and Sanitation Specialist Rokeya Ahmed and PKSF General Manager Md Abdul Matin also addressed the gathering.

Representatives from the implementing POs discussed challenges and strategies for the project's effective implementation.

In recognition of their efforts, 20 branches of 11 POs were awarded for their outstanding performance in achieving the project's objectives.
