Former member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) provincial assembly, Chaudhry Muhammad Adnan, along with his driver, was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Rawalpindi on Monday.
Chaudhry Adnan also contested the general elections of 2024 from NA-57 and PP-19 as an independent candidate but faced defeat, as reported by The Nation.
Chaudhry Adnan was traveling in a black-colored vehicle driven by his driver, Zahid, on Fort Road when unknown assailants riding a bike launched an armed attack on his vehicle at a traffic signal near the city police officer’s (CPO) office.
It was an ambush-style shooting by two assassins riding a motorcycle, who appeared suddenly and managed to escape after committing the crime, as reported by the media, citing sources.
A statement from the Rawalpindi police spokesperson has directed the Potohar superintendent of police to arrest the culprits involved in the incident immediately.
"According to the initial investigation, the incident seems to be a sign of personal enmity," the statement said.
"Investigations are underway from all angles," it added, saying that the culprits would be arrested and presented in court.
Adnan also served as parliamentary secretary for revenue during 2018-2020.
