Several political leaders in Jhenaidah have been placed under surveillance in connection with the murder of Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Detective Branch) Harun-ur-Rashid.
"We are investigating who the suspects in India received shares of payment against the murder of MP Anar. We are examining whether anyone benefited financially from the photos and through whom these benefits were acquired. Several political leaders in Jhenaidah are under surveillance as part of the investigation," said the DB chief in response to a question from journalists on Minto Road in Dhaka on Tuesday (11 June).
He further said, "After analysing all the data, we concluded that it was necessary to interrogate Kazi Kamal Ahmed Babu, also known as Gas Babu, the Relief and Social Welfare Secretary of Jhenaidah District Awami League. He has been arrested and is currently on remand. We are interrogating him. The case is being investigated by the DB-Wari Division."
Additionally, Harun-ur-Rashid informed that two cars used by the mastermind of the murder, Akhtaruzzaman Shahin, have been seised.
