No matter how influential the criminals are, they will not receive any support from the government, Prime Minister's Private Sector Adviser Salman F Rahman said on Wednesday (May 29).

“If a person breaches the law, he will have to face trial no matter how influential he is. The law will take its own course,” said Salman F Rahman.

The prime minister's private sector adviser made these remarks after a meeting of the national committee working on ensuring proper working environments at factories and commercial buildings, and addressing obstacles to investment in the country.

Addressing the cases of slain MP Anwarul Azim Anar and former army chief Aziz Ahmed, Salman F Rahman said the government will not offer them any protection.

He said, “The murder of MP Anwer shocked us. It would not be right to make any comment regarding this matter until the investigation is over.”

Salman F Rahman mentioned that after inspecting 10,000 factories across the country, some shortcomings were detected at certain workplaces and a process to address them is underway. The government will also carry out factory inspections in 16 more labor-intensive areas.

He said the two city corporations in Dhaka have been directed to free the occupied parking lots around the city’s multi-storey buildings, markets, and commercial buildings.

From now on, he added, to secure approval for building new factories and commercial buildings, signatures from the environment and power departments, as well as the concerned deputy commissioners, will be required.
