Three suspects in the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar have been placed on a five-day remand for further interrogation.

The suspects, Syed Amanullah Aman alias Shimul Bhuiyan, Faisal Ali Saji alias Tanvi Bhuiyan, and Celesty Rahman, were presented in court on Friday (31 May) after an initial eight-day remand.

The investigation officer, Assistant Police Commissioner Mahfuzur Rahman of the Detective Branch’s Wari Zone, requested a seven-day remand for further investigation.

However, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shanto Islam Mollick granted a five-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Abdullah Abu endorsed the remand application.

The initial eight-day remand was granted on 24 May following a case filed by Anar’s daughter, Mumtarin Ferdous Dorin, at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.

Chilling details have emerged about the murder of Anwarul Azim Anar, a Member of Parliament, who went missing on 13 May, a day after arriving in Kolkata.

According to investigators, Anar was allegedly killed in a Kolkata apartment.

His body was dismembered, and the remains were disposed of in multiple plastic bags.

The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) revealed that one of the suspects, a butcher from Mumbai, confessed to skinning the body, chopping it up, and mincing the parts to prevent identification.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the murder.

Earlier this week, Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan confirmed in a news conference that Anar, a three-time Awami League MP, was killed in Kolkata.

He also announced that Bangladesh Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the case.
