Amid the severe heat wave sweeping through the country, a school teacher named Ahsan Habib died after falling ill from severe heat in Jashore.

The incident took place at around 9am on Sunday (28 April), said Dr Habibur Rahman, an emergency department physician at Jashore General Hospital.

Ahsan Habib was an assistant teacher at Ahmedabad Secondary School in Jashore Sadar Upazila.

“He [Ahsan Habib] came to the school at around 9 o'clock this morning after working in the fields. He fell ill. When he was quickly taken to Jashore General Hospital, the doctor on duty declared him dead," said AZM Parvez Masood, the headmaster of Ahmedabad Secondary School.

“When Ahsan Habib was brought to the hospital, he was already dead. Relatives of the patient said that he went to school this morning in the sun after working in the field. They claim that he died of heat stroke. However, we have not received the final report yet. The emergency department doctor thinks he may have died of a heart attack,” said Jashore General Hospital Supervisor Dr Abdur Rashid.
