Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser for ICT Division Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said today that the interim government is taking significant steps to ensure that no future government in Bangladesh can shut down the internet.
Speaking at the inaugural session of 'Bangladesh Startup Connect 2025' at the Intercontinental in the capital, he emphasized that the government is working towards declaring the internet as a fundamental civic right in the country.
The event, organized by Startup Bangladesh Limited, ICT Division and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), focused on the nation's rapidly expanding startup ecosystem and its pivotal role in global investment networks.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb further noted that the NGSO guidelines do not contain any provisions for internet shutdowns.
He stated that the interim government is actively working on amending controversial clauses of the Telecommunication Act of 2001 to ensure that internet shutdowns cannot occur legally in the future
Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Ahsan H Mansur, Executive Chairman of BIDA Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Secretary of the ICT Division and Chairman of Startup Bangladesh Limited Shish Haider Chowdhury also took part at the panel discussion.
