The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has launched an 'auxiliary police force' to bolster security in shopping malls, markets, and residential areas across the capital. DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali announced the initiative during a press briefing at the DMP media center on Saturday.
"Private security personnel assigned to residential areas, markets, and shopping malls will now work as an auxiliary police force. They have also been granted the authority to make arrests," said the DMP commissioner.
"These personnel have been appointed in line with The Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance," the DMP chief added.
“I have the authority to appoint private security personnel from shopping malls and restricted residential areas as members of the 'auxiliary police force.' Utilizing this authority, I have designated them as auxiliary police. We will provide them with identification bands labeled ‘Auxiliary Police,’ enabling them to perform their duties within the legal framework,” said Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali.
He further added that the auxiliary force members will enjoy the same legal protections and facilities as regular police officers while on duty.
The announcement was made in the presence of Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operation) S N M Nazrul Islam, Additional Police Commissioner (DB) Rezaul Karim Mallik, and Ramna Deputy Commissioner Masud Alam.
