Shipping Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Sakhawat Hossain assured on Tuesday that an adequate supply of daily essentials had been imported, eliminating any risk of shortages.
Speaking at the Secretariat after a cheque handover ceremony, he stated that despite some ongoing issues with edible oil, there were no disruptions in the overall supply of essential goods.
In response to media queries, the adviser emphasized that necessary measures had been taken to ensure a steady flow of imports, preventing supply gaps in the market. He also warned that importers failing to collect goods from the port within the specified timeframe would face a threefold fine, reinforcing efforts to maintain a smooth supply chain.
Earlier, Sakhawat Hossain attended a cheque handover ceremony for the families of six workers who lost their lives in the December MV Al-Bakhira cargo vessel accident on the Meghna River in Haimchar, Chandpur.
The Labour Welfare Foundation provided Tk 2 lakh, while Noyapara Group, an importing company, contributed Tk 3 lakh to support the victims' families.
