As part of ongoing cost-cutting measures under Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Manchester United staff will no longer receive free hot meals, with fruit replacing lunches at Old Trafford.

The staff canteen at Old Trafford is set to close at the end of the week, marking another step in Ineos’ budget-reduction strategy.

Employees who once had access to free hot meals, tea, and coffee will now be offered fruit as an alternative. Casual matchday staff will continue to receive a packed lunch, but full-time employees will have to make their arrangements.

At Carrington, the club’s training ground, only players will be served hot meals, while other staff members will have access to soup and sandwiches instead.

These changes come amid wider restructuring at Manchester United, with significant staff layoffs and a shift toward data-driven scouting. The club has built up over £300 million in losses in the past three years, and financial reports indicate that debt interest payments will rise by £50 million over the next two years.

While United fans hope for improvements on the pitch, employees will now have to adjust to a workplace where fruit replaces full meals as part of the club’s latest cost-saving measures.
